Hello! I’m Miranda. I’m 31 and live in Spokane, Washington (for the time being). I’m a college English professor (I teach composition/rhetoric courses at the moment). I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in English Literature. I’m a bookish girl who is smitten with reading, writing, and just about everything related to language.
I’m also a writer (you can see some of my writing here). I’ve written for a number of sites and publications and hope to continue doing so. My current CV/Resume is available here (PDF).
I’m currently doing research on a few topics, including the negative effects (primarily guilt and shame) of childhood religious (Catholic) indoctrination (focusing on girls and the women they become), and I hope to turn some of my research into articles and/or a book.
I’m an atheist (and an ex-Catholic) who is passionate about combating irrationality and promoting critical thinking. It’s crucially important to question religious individuals and/or groups who assert that their irrational and baseless beliefs provide a legitimate basis for any sort of epistemological claims, that their beliefs deserve automatic and unquestioned respect, or that their faith should have any influence on political and/or governmental practices.
Thanks for visiting my site! Please feel free to email me anytime (or find me on Facebook or Twitter). ♥
